1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, designed by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro style with cutting edge technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process - from grinding beans and then tamping them into a puck to texturing milk and dispensing the correct amount of coffee - meaning you can make barista-quality hot beverages with the click of the button.
The machine also sports an elegant brushed aluminium front and is available in a choice of red, black or taupe, meaning it'll easily fit into the majority of kitchen designs. There are some flaws however: the majority of users found it to be a bit expensive for a bean to cup maker (and it doesn't come with a milk pitcher).
There were also numerous positive reviews of the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of use of this machine. The digital display offers feedback and step-by-step directions throughout the entire process of brewing which will allow you to improve your coffee each time. The machine even allows you to alter the size of your grind in case that's not what you would like to do. It's like having your own personal barista at home (minus Elon Musk's rocket building abilities and Harry Potter's invisible cape).
If you prefer milky drinks this model comes with a steam wand that's adjustable up and down to accommodate all drinking vessels, but not the Viking's drinking horn. We were awestruck by the speed and efficiency of the frothing process too. It also produces an amazing espresso with great crema and a full flavour despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is an excellent all-rounder that's quiet, efficient and provides excellent value for money, especially at its current price of PS499. The only problem is that it does not provide the same level of customization as other bean-to-cup machines that we have examined. It has a 15 bar pump, rather than the typical 19 bars that aren't as efficient for making high-quality espressos. This is a fantastic machine for those who like their coffee dark and strong.
